Mouthpiece

Hey everybody!

I guess I'm one of the strange horn players that doesn't like to play with a lot of resistance (because my band director told me that many French Horn players like to have resistance when they play), but my hate of back pressure has led me to finding more open horns. I've just ordered a Conn 8D, as I favored that over the other horns I was trying, but I think that a bigger mouthpiece would help me, too. I've been playing on a Schilke 31, but recently started playing on a 31B. Are there any recommendations as to what I should try before bighting the bullet on one? The nifty thing is, I can have the 31B I've been playing on for free because a kid that quit band gave it to the band, and the director offered it to me.

Thanks for the help!

Don't play some mouthpiece because some kid has left the band and you can have it for free. if I were you I'd read up on Stork Custom mouthpieces. I play a Myers no 8 and find it really good. Also go into Schmid horns and read the Phil Myers interview.
He's some guy.
